Vietnam - October 2002

We visited three of our busiest projects in Vietnam — Cho Ray, Binh Duong and CTO. Doctors have been doing between 150 - 300 SIGN cases per year at each of these locations. At Cho Ray, doctors from outer province hospitals using SIGN system greeted us and gave us CDs containing images of their fractures and x-rays of SIGN surgeries. At CTO we met Drs. Mun from Tay Ninh. They had driven six hours to meet with us to share their SIGN results.

Doctors from Ben Tre had been at Cho Ray performing surgeries for approximately a week prior to our arrival, with the hope of starting a SIGN project in Ben Tre, a city of 1.5 million people. Our last case at Cho Ray was done by the lead surgeon from Bentre. He proved his capability with the system. We felt confident about giving the Bentre surgeons the set of SIGN instruments that had been delivered to Vietnam by Dr. Gurbani, SIGN project leader from India.

The last morning at Binh Duong we treated three femur fractures with SIGN nails. One of these fractures involved both femurs in a 15-year old girl hit by a bus while on her bicycle. The surgeons at Binh Duong promote SIGN in many ways. Dr. Han Khoi Quang has been a leader in suggesting new SIGN techniques and instruments.
